Respect the Bubble

Some people don’t seem to understand the concept of personal space, so I thought I’d take the liberty of explaining it here.

Personal space is that area around a person’s body that another need not enter without clearance. It’s the invisible bubble that surrounds us all. Sizes may vary, but always, always err on the side of caution. Invading a person’s bubble is a serious offense.

My bubble, for instance, surrounds my head with a two-foot radius. This means that when you speak to me, there is no reason I should smell your breath, or your body odor. This also means that as you animatedly tell me a story, your hand does not need to be two inches from my face. Believe me, the story is just as enjoyable with out your filthy hands threatening to transmit your disease.

There’s nothing worse than a person who can’t respect the bubble. So please, please, please be cognizant of the bubble!

I agree! This kills me!!!

Some people are so clueless about respecting the personal space of others. The doctor I visited last week is a perfect example…but the best ever case of this is when a woman I had just finished interviewing for a job opening (reporting to me) grabbed me an hugged me.

A word of advise to anyone job hunting:
DON’T HUG YOUR INTERVIEWER!
You don’t know what your interviewer’s issues are.

And if your interviewer wants to grab you and hug you, you may want to seriously reconsider any offers made.

Aach!

Great advice! You'd think it would be common sense, but like they say, common sense aint so common.

I am right there with you on that one. It really freaks me out when someone crosses the line!!!

Hey Tournesol:
How have you been? I wonder if this bubble is an anxiety-related issue, or if "normal" people feel the same way!

so...I had a good friend who smoked like a chimney and drank coffee like a fish. She was ALWAYS up in my personal space. It drove me NUTS. I mean the smell, my God, the smell!

I've been good mostly, you know how it is when you are a hypo, things can go from good to bad and visa versa in a few minutes!! I don't know about the bubble issue and anxiety? I just feel really invaded upon when some one can't give me a little room! Seems to happen alot in the line at stores, you turn around to find someone's chin practically on your shoulder. I hate that!

Lovely! Although some days, there's nothing like a good smoke with a cup of black coffee.

I know that roller coaster all too well. People in stores are the worst! Yesterday, in the store, a lady on her cell phone was practically standing on top of me. If I wasn't so non-confrontational, I would've turned around and punched her in the face!
